hi doug i did install php but it could not configure itself with IIS v 5.1 and i've tried to do it manually via the Home directory and then under configuration but it doesnt respond.
so now i have no way of confirguring php with IIS. and also another problem is that when i click "Default Web Site" under Internet Information Services an error msg pops up "unable to read the current logging plugin value". and the last problem is that when i tried to access my web site via the internet e.g. http://localhost it responds by giving me another ERROR msg "ERROR-ACCESS DENIED". ty to u if u can help me |

You're going to have to follow the instructions from the php site. I don't recall the particulars, but it was pretty easy to install php5 on an XP IIS server by following the instructions.
Before trying to install php, make sure your IIS is working right with both html and asp pages. What you posted above sounds like your IIS installation isn't correct, try uninstalling and reinstalling from the add windows components. Make sure you're the admin user, and that you're using NTFS with "simple file sharing" turned off. |

I have never run IIS on fat32, I don't know how or if that will affect things. With NTFS you can assign permissions by users, something that IIS does to assign proper permissions to files & folders. If you're getting a login prompt something doesn't have the proper permissions set, or your IIS is not setup to allow anonymous users.

go to IIS administration -> default web site -> properties -> directory security and disable anonymous acess and enable integrated windows authentication.
