partial administration?
Is it possible to create a user account that would allow a person to have full controll of a single IIS web? I'm trying to test out security settings, but I can't have access to the server due to red tape. My boss who does have access is too busy to make every little change I want to try. So if i could change the settings on JUST my own web, it'd be all good. Any help?

Are you talking about code changes, or IIS program changes? If it's just code, he could probably set up an ftp account for you that would default you and limit you to just that directory. If it's IIS program changes, I'm not totally sure.

I will need to make changes like allowing anon access, what account the anon should use, directory permissions under IIS and that sorta thing.

Well, if it's running on a version of Windows Server (2000, 2003) with Terminal Services, you should be able to use Remote Desktop and login and do your changes, and if he happens to be on the computer, it won't mess with his session, since the Server versions allow multiple connections at once.
Might have to get the IT people to set up an account for you to use though if your regular one is more restricted. |

yes, i can certainly do that. The issue here is that I can not have access to all of the webs that are on that server. I can't do this unless I can find a way to restrict my access to JUST the web that I'm working on right now, not the 6 or 7 others that are on that same IIS server.

hmm, other than having the boss just "trust you", I dont think there is a way. It's more like a program type security, and I dont think IIS has anything like that.

yeah, he trusts me... just that the FDA and ISO say he's not allowed to trust me. I love red tape.

Heh, been there. Well, as far as I know, unless he can get some special approval, you're S.O.L.
