POP3 user authentication

I am trying to set up my user authentication on the SMTP / POP3 server that comes on 2003 server. I used to have a site hosted on an NT server and the username for my logon was “ronc” not ronc@mydomain.com I have been trying to work out the configuration for users so that they have to authenticate on the server and so far I keep ending up going back to no authentication because it keeps rejecting the login. Can anyone tell me what the settings are that I need to configure.
