Red face problems installing IIS please help me....

A few days a go, someone wrote this:

I'm trying to install IIS on Win XP Pro but I keep getting an error message that certain dll files cannot be found. (infocomm.dll, iislog51.dll, etc.) Some of the files are in the win/system folder, but some aren't. The installer keeps asking for the service pack 1 cd, but the files aren't on there either. Besides, I've already installed sp1. Any ideas?

I have the same problem.... I have tried to install IIS on two computers running win xp pro and it couldnt be done because of the problem finding those files.... please... can somebody help me?

Process installing IIS on XP

Well, the first thing I do in order to install IIS, is going to Control Panel then, select add/remove programs, there I select "Add/Remove Windows Components" and after that, I click on the "Internet Information Server (IIS)" option, and then XP is asking me to insert the Windows XP CD, and when I inserted it, it seems to start installing IIS, but some files are missing, like the one named "default.asp" and other dlls files and sends me an error message telling me to be sure that the Windows XP Service Pack 1 is inserted.

what can I do? this is the first time I tried to install IIS.... I will apreciate your help....

Perla

You're doing the install correctly. I just asked because some people have tried to install IIS/PWS from other versions of Windows.

Are you an administrator user on the XP computer, and do you have any security policies in place that might be interfering with installation?

I think there have been a couple different XP versions on CD, are you using the same XP CD that was used to install your OS, or at least is it the same version? I mention this because recently I did a XP Pro retail upgrade and the version had SP1 already there.

You might want to uninstall completely, reboot, then try reinstalling.

It has nothing to do with the install. This works in Win2000 and XP Pro, I have used this fix on many many computers and have never had any problems.

Look on the CD maybe? I don't know unless you've done something that deleted that dll.

Try this.

Add/Remove Program
Install IIS Again, and when it ask for the files point it to this folder
( Assuming that WinXP is installed in the C:\ Drive )
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\I386

Make sure that you have your WinXP Pro CD in the Drive, before your
Even start. So that once it finishes getting the Files from the folder
Above, it can get the rest of the files from the CD.

Hope this helps.

Take Care
carrzkiss
