Right click, but no "new web-site" option appears

Hello.

I maintain a IIS server at my work on a regular basis and this week have setup my home pc to run as a web server running Windows XP Pro / IIS5. When I setup a new website at my works web server, I right click on the hierarchy on the left and side and select the "New website" option which in turn adds a new sub directory for me to setup a new site - all I get is "Virtual Directory".

Upon doing this on my home machine, this is not the case. Both versions of IIS are the same, but the work server runs on Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

Obviously, I would like to be able to add multiple sites to my home IIS, but without this feature, am unable to do so.

George

Thats how you do it. Here's a link, but in short, the virtual directory is where you will put your site files, and when you give it an "alias", that is how you get to your site.

ex. http://localhost/aliasName

IIS for XP Pro

Windows Workstations (XP, and 2KPro) do not support running multiple websites, it is a limit to the OS so they can get you to buy Server for what it's intended. In order to get separate websites on an XP machine you have to use subdirectories, virtual directories, or web shares, but they will only be accessible by

http://localhost/folder
http://IPADDRESS/folder
http://host.domain.tld/folder

no multiple host headers like on server products.
