Smtp... HELP!!!!
I have been fighting this system for over 4 months now on my own and I am finally asking for help. I am running windows 2003 server. I have installed the mail feature from the cd. It installs pop3 and smtp, I have read 2003 microsoft books that say thats all I need to make it work.. it doesnt. I can recieve emails but when I try to send them, the email gets stuck in the queue folder. I have read serveral forums with suggestions and so far nothing is working. Please help.. I just want my emails out of my queue folder.

It sounds like you haven't properly configured your smtp server, or maybe your isp is blocking smtp. Open the iis management console to find the online help and configuration screens for IIS SMTP.

Well I have tried that, I have everything set up correctly (well obviously not or it would be working) and I have even deleted and reinstalled the smtp to see if it was a bad install.

Did you also try contacting your ISP to find out whether they do block port 25? (You may even be able to check out your ISP's website to find the answer to that question.)

Well I thought that as well, so I switched the port smtp runs off of to 425 and pop3 to 935 and same results, stuck in queue.

There are any number of reasons your email doesn't get sent, you'll have to do some troubleshooting. Simply saying 'stuck in queue' doesn't give any information that helps. Do you have errors? bounce messages? is the IIS SMTP server even running? Any clues in the event logs? firewall setup properly? Are you using correct email addressing? DNS setup properly? Is your MX pointing to an A record not a CNAME? Is your IP listed on a RBL list?
And so on ... |
