Virtual Directory Error
I think i've seen this discussed but not sure I understand the solution. Need help really bad here.
I have two different networks NetA & NetB. Both networks have a Windows2k with IIS and both servers are domain controllers. I have a PIX Firewall tunnel between the two and i'm able to map a drive from NetA Server to a share on NetB Server. I can ping the ip and hostname. It all resolves fine and I can browse the directory when I map the share. Ok, on NetA Server I go into IIS and create a virtual directory and use the share that I have mapped but it errors out. Also if I go to the url it prompts me for a login because the username/password I use for the virtual directory fails. Just a side note but i'm using the admin user/pass for the NetB Server for testing purposes at the moment and it fails. I plan to change this cause I know it's not good to use the admin. Anyway, the folder that's on NetB Server is a folder at the Inetpub/wwwroot level. Again, I don't know what i'm missing. Can someone help? Thanks. |

A default IIS installation uses local user accounts to operate, and these local accounts won't exist on the 2nd computer. You usually can add the same username and password to the 2nd machine, and then grant that user account permissions to the shared directory.

So you mean add the IUSR_[MACHINENAME] user to the machine where the share exists?
I'm still trying to figure out how this IUSR_ works. thanks |
