Hi All,

Need to find out about 2003 Server. What is it like? Is it stable as a WebServer, does Coldfusion and Mysql Run on it?

You obviously are dissatisfied with W2003, but that is contrary to the opinion of most 2003 users.

But

W2003 is not XP
IIS6 is very different from IIS5 and is much more secure out of the box.
Your opinion of speed and managment ease are your own.

It sounds to me like you're trying to use a Server OS as a desktop OS, which might explain things. Playing games on a server?

Give BALAMM A BREAK - Win2003 - IIS Has Problems Out of the Box

Give BALAMM a break. Our shop--Fortune 750--with extensive Apache-Linux/Windows-IIS/Solaris-IPlanet, etc. servers (500+), recently had an issue with Windows 2003 & IIS 6.0, where it acted like a true "pig", especially upon the first page loading. It was seen with ASP, HTML, and Servlets. Fix: See the following KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;840875

Thanks to Macromedia, for pointing us to the fix.

--MSC

P.S. For Coldfusion, MySQL, PHP, and JRun, our perferred platform/webserver is Solaris 9/Apache.

I have been very satisfied with my 2k3 Server running IIS. It's been very reliable and fast for me. I was even able to load it on a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop 850 MHz 512 MB RAM for school and it works wonderfully.
