Windows XP Pro with IIS
I have Windows XP Pro and IIS installed. I have a domain name with no-ip.com and dns services. What I intend to do is have the domain name (which is a pointer to my ip address) and IIS work together so when you type "http://domain.com" it loads an index file from the www root folder. Everything appears correct on my end but no one can access the index file which means IIS is setup wrong. As far as my IIS settings I have the ip address set to my current ip and the tcp port set to 80. The service is running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will have IIS running so if you want to test the issue go to URL and test it. If everything is setup correct you should see a simple html page with one line of text. Thanks for any help IIS Newbie, NPS Last edited by nps : April 19th, 2004 at 06:36 PM. |

This sounds like a firewall is blocking outside access to your server.

To check this, go to http://www.grc.com and select the Shields Up test. Do a basic scan of ports and it should find that port 80 is open. If it isn't, then Doug is correct and it's a firewall problem. |

I ran the test and nothing is blocked. I have no firewalls installed (the xp one is off) and no cable router so I'm not sure what to do now. I guess I could reinstall IIS and hope for the best.
Thanks for your help ![]() |

Can you access the site correctly from internally within your local network?
Also check that the site isn't being configured for only the local IP address, but also the external one. Check to see if you can access the site using the IP address, instead of the domain name. |
