xp iis - can't browse local sites anymore: how to repair?

XP pro.

Everything was fine until today. Had a crash after booting up this morning, though was working fine last night. Now can't browse my local websites on iis.

I can ping localhost fine. I can ping the ip fine. I can reach other computers on the lan fine. Can ping the default gateway, etc. Just can't browse to local websites from any lan computer now.

I can browse the internet fine.

When I go into control panle/admin tools/iis after first starting the computer, it's OK. After I try to go to a local site, however, I can't even open iis in admin. The timer appears for a moment, then nothing. Or if it opens, maybe can't choose properties on anything as it will just hang. Try to stop www publishing in services and it can't finish. Reboot and I can go in. Browse and can't.

No events are generated when I can't browse, or can't open iis in admin.

I reinstalled iis 2 times. No help. Shut down all computers, nat moden, router then restarted and same.

Not sure what to do: tcp/ip sounds fine, no?

Thinking xp repair installation, but thought to ask first. Not even sure it will help. Might it?

Any ideas, or steps to check first?

Thanks!

more info which might id the problem:

I've noticed that after startup I can access iis fine. As soon as I browse any page, however, I can't. For example, if in iis admin after startup I can check properties of a site; after opening a webpage saved to disc (not even a site) I can no longer use iis admin to check properties, or reopen iis admin after closing it.

Also, the cpu usage jumps to 50% after loading a page and stays there after closed until I reboot.

Ideas?

- What service pack have you got on it?
- Ensured your computer is clean of spyware adware etc etc?
- Can you do a system restore?
- What did you do to the metabases? Applied any filters, lockdown tools etc etc?

-sp1

-think so

- Can you do a system restore?
-tried several before posting but wouldn't restore, then got one to work. Was still the same after.

- What did you do to the metabases? Applied any filters, lockdown tools etc etc?
-nothing I think, as not even sure what all that means :-)

SOLVED:

Apparently, it was just really tired and needed a good sleep, because it worked this morning. No idea why, because I turned everything off for 15 minuted yesterday and tried again, and rebooted many times. No idea, but happy anyway.
