Question Moving website to iis not working?

    Hey guys,

I am trying to move some asp.net code to iis. I am going to 'publish website' via Visual Studio 2010 and then copying the published code to a local folder. From there I am moving this code folder to my web server.

From within IIS on my web server I right click on my site and click 'Add Virtual Directory'. I browse to the path of the code folder and select ok.

When I browse to the location of the new virtual directory via http://servername/foldername or http://servername/alias, all I get is a blank page?

If I try to go to one of the pages (like default.aspx) I get: XML Parsing Error: no element found
    Location: http://servername/default.aspx
    Line Number 1, Column 1:

Can one of you tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Have you put a simple html page in your virtual dirrectory to make sure IIS is serving pages from the directory?

Otherwise it sounds like you are missing some xml file somewhere. Check your http logs and the server event logs, perhaps there are clues there.

I did try a static html file, and it did not display either :/

I ended up having to reinstall IIS. Do you know what may have caused this problem?

I did have the 'Static Content' service installed..

    Thanks for your help!

One guess, you may have used a non-administrator account the first time you installed. I'm not real familiar with newer versions of IIS though.
