Custom markers in GMaps?

Is it possible to use custom markers in ones own app using Google Maps? I've seen many websites that use custom markers but not sure about the iPhone, I would like my app to not use the red markers.

As other softwares do , iphone also can find out the point you located.

I found this, which was encouraging and seems to be what I want... you've got custom borders in the OS, custom markers and what looks to be a list of predefined markers from a list loaded on to the map.

I didn't think it was impossible. Still would like confirmation now there's a visual and it might make more sense.
