I'm trying to install JServ on a Redhat 6.1 server with Apache 1.3.9. When I try to restart apache using /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart. I get an error the mod_serv.so is garbled. Does anyone know what I missed? Do I have to add the module to apache? Any help will be great. Thanks.

The info you have given is not sufficient to determine the problem. Please give more details and provide answers to the following questions:

1) How did you install apache. RPM? tarball?
2) Static or DSO method?
3) There are quite a few dependencies for JServ. Have you installed any programs prior to install JServ?
4) Which format is your JServ. Tarball or RPM?
5) What configure option for Apache and Jserv?

First I installed jdk-1.2.2-RC4.src.rpm and rpm -bb the src file to create a rpm for jdk.
Then I installed ApacheJServ-1.1.1-2.i386.rpm .

I'm not sure if I'm using Static or DSO. I have a default rpm Apache. I haven't configured anything special into Apache.

Never install apache rpm. You MUST compile from source.

On that last note, if you want to install apache from source, use devshed's great tutorial at http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/...ess/page1.html. I don't have JServ installed, and the tutorial doesn't include instructions for it. If anyone reading this knows if I need to recompile apache in order to get jserv in, that would be helpful. Thanks.

Bob
