    Need help explaining bitwise operators.

    Hello Guys!

I was reading a book about Java and came across something I can't understand. That was bitwise Operators, operators which shift the bits in an integer and replace the remaining places with zeros. Though I understood SHIFT Operators, but I was unable to fully understand AND (&), OR (|), XOR(^) and (~). I also found these operators in JavaScript. Can anyone explain to me, with the uses and applications, of these operators?

    Thank you for your attention.

    Hi,

The operators you mentioned are used in boolean logic. Since I'm new to this forum I can't post useful links to help you, but you can google/bing for "boolean logic" to find out more. The search result may return a link to the howstuffworks web site that has a good explanation on this. Hth!
