Java- Adding times/dates

Do you know how to add times in Java?
for example, if the user inputs a time of 5:50 pm how do you add say 20 minutes to it? or if you have 07/05/03 11:45 pm how do you add 30 minutes and have it automatically update? i've been looking into functions using the java.util.Calendar package and havent been able to do it yet

add(int field, int amount) 
          Date Arithmetic function.
