Java applethelp

I'm doing a java applet and I want to have an animation where fireworks shoot up and display a name. I'm new to java and my question is how to I make the fireworks shoot up and then display name after the fireworks go up?

Well you need to get an understanding of basic java logic. Then you would want to learn swing. But here is how you would do it. You need to create a set of images(A.K.A Sprite set) and then you would create a timer or thread and draw the images at different locations according to the time... Pretty simple. However I suggest seeing as you are new put this project on the back burner and go HERE and follow all of the tutorials.
