    Are you familiar with using Mouse Listeners. If you will be doing this client side you could try using the Javascript event handlers as well

    I am aware I can use Java Script, I was just wondering if there is any other shorter way of using mouse listeners.
    What I need to do is when I click on a certain link, I need to store a value from a table.
    Thanks,

    You could fire off an event that opens another page, processing a script to save information. Then close the page when the script has finished.

    No. Javascript is not the only solution. Another solution is to use an applet embedded into your web page.
    As for the code snippet.
    onMouseover(logEvent(dataToLog))
    ...
    function logEvent(dataToLog)
    {
    open.window(somejsppage.jsp?param=dataToLog);
    close the window when done
    }
