I got sick of mucking around with my it on test machine
and got JRun developer version and got that working ok
I have spoken to other people about Jserv and they ditched it and they setup a proxy via apache to point to tomcat.

Excse my ignorance.. What is the diff between (SDK) and JRun developer? Where did you get "JRun developer"?

When your sick of dealing with Tomcats bugs try Resin. Its from caucho.com & makes Tomcat look like a tinker toy! That sounds good. I will check it out. I gave up on tomcat a few weeks ago. How would I integrate it into apache?

I would try Resin, but two things made me think twice and not download it:
1.) The word "Demo"
2.) They think mod_perl and mod_php are servlet engines... not the best sign of server-side intelligence IMO.
Besides, I have had absolutely no problems installing and running Tomcat... integrates almost-well with Apache too

About Resin - I do not know if it is all that effective, but it is obviously not a home tool, prices range from $500 to $3500 ( link)
About installation java on apache, probably the best thing for you is to read official docs on http://java.apache.org or http://jakarta.apache.org (which are merging btw). Jakarta has pretty good mans, and as a matter of fact devshed has an article on installing and using jsp with apache. Read it, it is little outdated but gives you general idea.

You really need to read the whole thing folks
Resin is FREE to download & install on your developer machine. The $500 you read on that page is for a commercial server lisense..... For those of you that dont thinks its effective....well you keep having fun with Tomcat & its bugs a plenty........us Resin developers will just sit back & laugh our butts off at you. Plain & Simple........Resin BLOWS Tomcat out of the water without even trying....once you try it you'll NEVER go back!

Where does it say mod_perl and mod_php are servlet engines, it says it outperforms mod_perl, mod_php and other servlet engines, meaning that in addition to mod_perl and mod_php, it outperforms other servlet engines.
Resin is free for development and for small start ups with neither funding or income.
