start a client-side java forum?
I think we should have a client-side java forum about applets.

Java in general would be just great. Not that there is not enough resources for that, just good to have it here to, because from what I know we do have quite a number of java-literate programmers here who could help out others once so often. Being a beginner with java myself, I vote yes.
And you know I mean that.

An applets forum would be good, but adding a "java appplications", or just a generic java forum would be good, cos I see a lot of java queries, which have nothing to do with JSP or servlets, that are perfectly valid, but just not relevant to be in this forum... Theres a C forum, why, not a pure java forum? I vote yes

I agree that Pure java should be seperated from JSP and servlets. They have some things in common but are seperate API's. As far as Applets, I didn't know anyone was still using those!!!! Why would you?

why not? what do you prefer?
flash? - an alternative worth trying
anything else - not worth spending a single second on (i think)

Great, I'd like a java forum (or two).
BTW Applets are widely used in commercial application as a web deployable tool!!

that is what we at our company use it for. make e-business

Kind of off topic but.....
Flash is very powerful and has reasonable download times if you script wisely.
I think Applets are a dated technology that just wasn't right.
It is a very powerful concept. I have seen some really powerful applets. Datek Online's Streamer is probable one of the coolest examples I have seen, but way to often I see nav menu's and basic animations that would be better suited for flash.

So are you talking about applets in general or applest written by wannabes morons who use them everywhere? I can easily find you tons of bad examples of technology uses, but they won't mean technology itself is bad.
And you know I mean that.

I guess I'm refering to the technology in general based on what it was originally hyped up to be. When I say originally I'm refering to years back before Servlets and JSP. Applets never made it in the direction that it was originaly going. This happens to all languages, as they mature they sometimes go in different directions than they were intended to go. Some times they grow into great things and other times they kind get stuck and don't advance. Doesn't mean they aren't still used (good examples or bad)
Just an opinion!
