    Screen Width

    Actually, 629 is the highest resolution i've seen to avoid scrollbars in NS and IE

    Re: HTML / PHP

    Look for a file called .htaccess in the directories you serve files from (if you can't find a file called .htaccess then just make one) and add the following line of code
    <br>

    <br>
    AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .html
    <br>

    <br>
    The php3 part may be php denpending on your system config.
    <br>

    <br>
    This will mean that all files with the ext .html within that directory will be prased by php.
    <br>

    <br>
    You could also add
    <br>

    <br>
    AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .phtml
    <br>

    <br>
    or any ext you like (within reason).
    <br>

    <br>
    Hope this helps

    Include vs. Require

    <br>
    From the PHP documentation, it's more efficient (and predictable) to use the "Require" function to store your page index.
    <br>
    <br>
    "include" is best used with control structures, eg., when using loops or if statements to decide which code to include.

    Using Javascript to generated HTML

    Hi,

    Made be a wrong place to post this, but I use JavaScript to generated parts of my homepage. Just define an Array fill it...and let JavaScript do the rest. Not using this for Menu structures at the moment but for tumbnail galleries works rather nice.

    Have a look at http://www.geocities.com/wimpiesoft/

    I made a template so I only have to add the data (file sizes) the rest automatic.

    Very nice page, I have to say just bookmarked it...

    Re: A better solution

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>--------------------------------------------
    // Get the calling page
    $page = $PHP_SELF ;

    // Find the last occurence of the / character
    $pos = strrpos ($page, "/");
    // Grab everything past the last /
    $call_page = substr ($page, strrpos($page, "/") + 1);
    $pos = strpos ($call_page, ".");
    // Grab from the beginning of the string up to the . char
    $call_page = substr ($call_page, 0, strpos($call_page, "."));

    // Get the position again, but this time for the last directory
    $pos = strrpos ($page, "/");
    // Grab from the begining to the end minus the page_name.html
    $subdir = substr ($page, 0, ($pos-strlen($page)));
    // Grab ererything past the last /
    $subdir = substr ($subdir, strrpos($subdir, "/") + 1);
    This code places the page name (with no file extension in $page, with the subdirectory
    it's in (if any) in $subdir.
    -------------------------------------------
    </xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    Actually, this code puts the page name in $call_page.

    Add the following line to the end of the snippet and the example should work fine:

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>$page = $call_page;</xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    Re: Second Tutorial?

    I maybe late, but I have just enjoyed and profited from your article. It is very good and cleanly written.

    Did you ever get that second part put together? I would sure like to see it.

    Re: Missing Image?

    You might get a broken image graphic, or more likely, just ahve a visible bar where the blank grpahic would normally be. Since nothing really relies on it for PHP or JavaScript functionality, everything else should work jsut fine.
