    Java Javascript vbscript general questions.

Do java appletes run well under MS windows? Have there been any compatiblity problems? Do you worry about MS not supporting it or Sun going out of business?

Would similar programs run at the same speed. For example would a progam that takes the SQRT of a number over and over run faster under VBscript than java?

Yes, as long as the Java Run-time Environment (JRE) is installed. Which it often isn't in an 'out of the box' installation.

Some things don't work on Windows, as they are Unix specific... though there are often Windows conversions of those libraries.

Yes, and no. Don't worry about Sun going out of business, but MS not supporting it is a problem cos it means many people wont install it, and it isn't installed on a new installation of Windows.

Tough question. On a solaris machine, with multi-processors, then Java with multi-threading will fly through it, and take the piss out of a Windows machine running VB. On a Windows machine a VB program will be quicker cos the VB is complied and Java is interpreted. Depends on the platform and the setup.

    That's my viewpoint...
