JavaScript not acknowledged by browser (PC, IE 6.0)

I am befuddled. Some programmers that I work with have developed an application that uses JavaScript extensively. We have hundreds of users, and most of them appear to be fine.

About 10 users have had problems in which the JavaScript does not work. The way our software works, after a user logs in, a popup window with no toolbars appears-- the application runs in this window. For these problem users, the pop-up window never appears, so they can go no further.

I have worked with these users to ensure that they are accepting cookies and reloading pages on each visit. I had them go into Tools > Internet Options > Security and set "Action Scripting" to "prompt." When set like this, the application still fails, and it doesn't even prompt for the JavaScript as it does on my computer. It's like the browser doesn't even recognize the scripting...

Is there anything else in the OS that might be causing this? These users are all using IE 6.0 on Win ME - Win 2000. I have tried re-installing IE to no avail.

could be a simple popup blocker?
I've got a firewall installed that also blocks popup windows from opening.

This can be a pain, becuase as you've mentioned, sometimes we want poups to run. Long story short, i need to exit the application for those rare times.

Try doing the same, look for some ad-blocker or popup blocker. never know, maybe someone installed one?

    Re: pop-up blockers...

Excellent suggestion. I had already checked for this, as well as browser bar plug-ins and add-ons...

There is a firewall, but the application is behind the firewall...

    Still stumped.

well, one thing to know is if any other windows will popup aside from the apps.

surf the web, maybe try going to some casino site, it will for sure have nasty popups. If anything comes up then we're in business.

It's porbably not the browser settings or any software related to popups. So, this brings us down to the app you're trying to run.
    hmm...

well, post back with any results.

Good ideas-- I tried going to several other websites that I know uses pop-ups and many of the windows do pop up, but they still have their toolbars, address bars etc., whereas normally they wouldn't (I tested this on another computer.) It seems like javascript just will not work at all.

So it looks like it is something related to the browser, computer, or...???

Thank you for the ideas--- I will try anything else you suggest.

ok, so javascript is enabled and working.
    hmm..
I'm just throwing out ideas...so yours are as good as mine.

    So...here are some more.
-Check that the application can support the amount of users you want, maybe those 10 problem accounts show where the app no longer could handle any more users?

-Check that the app is being loaded properly, maybe it's a simple syntax error in the code?

-I'm stumped right there with you. I have a lovely bunch of coconuts..de de de de..there they are....hmmm. ok, starting to lose it....

What have your programmers had to say about the whole thing, surely they no better than anyone how to use the program.

one more idea. This only counts if the computers are all networked and kept maintained by an administrator.... Could it be that those 10PC's have some restrictions on them?
