JavaScript and CSS

Hi, I am fairly new to Javascript and am working on revamping a very large website for a client's internal website and have hit a snag, and also won't be able to share much of the code. I am try to use a body script to write basically a template for a standard CSS navigation bar with drop down menus. My problem is that when using the document.write command I get a bunch of Syntax errors on my closing script tag for the body script. Here is a sample line of code. Can ayone help me out by telling me what I am doing wrong?

document.write("<a href='#' class='link' onmouseout='out()' onmouseover='over(); MM_showHideLayers('mexico','','hide')'>Management List</a><br>");

As I said unfortunately I can not share much of the code because it contains confidential information.
