Question Preload Images in JavaScript & Tables vs CSS

    Howdy --

I'm doing a slideshow in javascript and I'm having a problem with users on a slow connection. All of the images have to be loaded into memory before the rest of my page displays. I would like to have all of the content of the website (with a picture in place of the slideshow) in view while the pictures of the slideshow download in the background.

I've got a prototype of the website here: www.pecosred.com/oakmac

I've also attached the slideshow.js code and index.html with this post.

    ---On another note ---

Does anybody know where a guide to switching from HTML tables to CSS is? I would like to make the switch, but I'm not quite sure how to get the layout I want using CSS. (the above URL has my current attempt to design pages according to W3 specifications)

    Thanks

I did a similar page and preloaded the images. I didn't check to see if they were done loading, but I think there's a property to find out. You could just use a timeout to check every few seconds to see when they finish, then initialize the slideshow. The location of my page is http://www.angelfire.com/wy/samri/France/France.html if you want to see how I did it.
