    Why use javascript?? Just use a bit of CSS styling, the character codes, and a couple of a href's...

    <style type="text/css">
    a:link { text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; color: #35679a }
    a:visited { text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; color: #35679a}
    a:active { text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; color: #35679a }
    a:hover { text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; color: #cc0066 }
    </style>

    <a href="#">&lt;</a>&nbsp;<a href="#">&gt;</a>

    Change the values as needed. Simple.

    ">" and "<"
    Woops! You wanted the characters pointed inward. My example points them outward.

    Here ya go...
    <a href="#">&gt;</a>&nbsp;<a href="#">&lt;</a>

    The &gt; is the character code for the "greater than" sign and the &lt; is the character code for the "less than" sign.

    Just nest each one in an a href tag to make then clickable links.
