Is SSL a MUST for Active Directory?

C++

I heard one can create user accts in Active directory without SSL using C++.

How about the same using JNDI/Java???

Do I need SSL?

In the past I have been able to create and modify user accounts without AD running SSL by using the Win32::OLE module. This doesn't answer your question directly, but does lend credence to the concept that it can be done. I would imagine there is a way in other languages as well.

Like I replyed to your other post if you're accessing LDAP though the local computer (i.e. directly though a com/object/dll/whatever then you most likly don't need a SSLed connection but if you are accessing it over a network then I'd imagin that you would.

Sorry - I failed to mention that Win32::OLE is a perl module, which is why my post wasn't overly helpful to begin with.

A little addtional information about using the perl module for anyone else who may need it, you must be a domain admin and working on any computer that is a member of the Windows domain ...
