LDAP Login Problem

I have setup the LDAP server and pam_ldap on my Red Hat Linux 9. Users have no problem in logging into the system on server and on other linux clients. but all users (include root) need to type the LDAP password before logging in, i.e.

ntec15-44 login: abc
Password: abc
LDAP password: abc
{login success!!}

Moreover, users cannot change their password using the passwd command after logging in.

Please help.

Regards,
Anthony Chan

Your System has to be configured to use the LDAP as the authentication backend instead of the passwd / group files. This is done by configuring the NSS and pam entries located in

/etc/nsswitch.conf
pam.conf or /etc/pam.d
