ftp://ftp.redhat.com:21
/pub/redhat/linux/8.0/en/iso/i386/ I was getting 55-65k/sec on my ADSL just 1 second ago.. I was testing it for you... Look on the mirrors page on redhats website if you need other ftp sites! http://www.redhat.com/download/mirror.html

Hello mate, I gave you a working FTP site to try, and also a list mirrors. I think you should try all of them before expecting me to send you over 3 Gig of data ![]() |

No more
I have moved on to !bigger and better things. Slackware is currently my distro of choice. 1 disc, easy install, stable setup. Soon I will probably move on to BSD (January 2003). Definitely my preference to RedHat now. I mean 3 cds?

Its choice GNUbie
![]() Everything you could possibly want is on them disc's, so a minimal install will barely install anything off of disc's 2 and 3! |

GNubie - thanks for sharing. I like cats and German Coffee Cake. That's my preference to dogs and angel food cake. I mean... who needs all that slobbering and blandness anyhow? More totally useless information for your everyday life
![]() Red Hat is easy to use and still lets me do things on my own terms (in other words... it likes to be helpful.. but when I tell it to get out of my way it does). I have installed everything I will likely ever need from my system off of those three discs and it's working wonderfully. It found everything except my modem (which was expected), but I already knew where to get drivers and how to install them (from fighting with it on RH 7.0), so it was no trouble getting hooked up to the net again. The only thing I need to do now is re-config my Apache settings (I accidentally wiped them out.. no biggy), re-compile the kernel to a little bit of a leaner version, and get PHP working with Apache2 (not easy on any system) - then I'm set. A 20 minute install, a total of about 1 hour of tweaking, and I'm ready to go. Plus, you have to LOVE Evolution and OpenOffice. Ximian Evolution is great! The Bluecurve thing is sort of annoying, and I prefer Konqueror to Nautilus (whoops... another 10 minutes of tweaking), but other than that, this is a verrryyy nice Distribution and has taken a VERY big stride toward the desktop. Unfortunately, LILO still gives me crap about booting Windows from a second disk (bummer.. I have to switch in BIOS which disk I boot from by default) and I haven't tried Grub, but this was a generally painless setup. BTW... should I ever need to move on to "bigger and better things" I won't wuss out and go with Slackware.. I'll just move straight to a BSD system :P |
