Appology and repost about rogue processes!!
i launch 1 program and check what process's are running on my machine, it always appears that 1 process spawns at least 5 others with the exact same arguements, mem requirments...... is this normal and why is it so?

what programs in particular are you talking about? This is normal for quite a bit of them, and they should disappear when you close the application.
Plus, a lot of applications make use of shared memory, meaning they aren't using as much memory as you may think- under 'top' you can see this in the "share" column. |
