In RedHat (aka DeadRat) you need to run the file system check tool. If i remember right the command for it is printed on the screen once you login as root. I think its fsck, been a while since i have had to use it

Use ReiserFS as filesystem and get rid of FSCK

Thanks for the reply.

Long back i used read hat 7.1 for some short time. Then uninstalled.

At the time i used to do that. I thin RedHat 7.1 display the command.

In RH 8 i think i don't see any command.

I have already tryed FSCK, (fsck /hda5) i don't know i have done the fsck right way. Still i can't boot.

Anyway i will try again.

Thanks all for the help.

Yes, RH have shown Run fsck to rectify.

I am newbie to linux.

I have corrected the problem by

fsck /dev/hda6

Last time i tryed fsck i forget to add /dev before /hda6

RH 8 take long time on my Cel 1.1 with 256 MB RAM. Is it supposed to run on high configuration systems or its slow because of the way i installed ?

I have a 20 GB HDD with 4 FAT parttions. I have deleted content of E: and F: and start installing RH8. I select automatic partition, it failed and i mounted one of the parttion to / and click continue. RH says i haveto select swap partition. I tryed to put other partition for swap. But i could not found swap in list down box. Since RH told i can continue without swap, i click continue.

MY RH takes 5 or 6 minutes to boot up. Is it because of the problem ?

Regards,

Boby

Linux does take a while to boot, especially if you are loading heaps of services you are not using. The most common point where many systems pause is on loading an ftp server. Swap is a very good thing to have and you will noticed a degradation in system performace without it.
