Booting Mandrake 8.2 to command line
For some reason or another I have been unable to discover how to get Mandrake 8.2 to boot to the command line. As soon as I boot up it loads KDE. Is there a way to close KDE and go to the command line only (not run the terminal from within KDE)?

you can simply edit /etc/inittab and change your runmode to 3, which will boot you to the console with networking enabled.
I think you can do this with DrakConf too, though I'm in the habit of just editing the configuration files manually. If you then want to start an X session, you can just "startx" from the console. Last edited by Hero Zzyzzx : August 11th, 2002 at 06:08 PM. |
