GNOME comes with a really neat applet which lets you (un)mount your floppy by simply clicking the applet button.
You can also right click on your gnome desktop and select Disks>floppy.
Or you can do "mount /mnt/floppy" in a terminal.
With all 3 methods GNOME will automatically put a floppy icon on your desktop.Anf ofcourse you will have to have a floppy in your drive.

Audio cd's,cd-rom's and DVD's are however mounted automatically, and you can configure what application to open them with.

Hardseeker, PLEASE. This sort of question is best left to the Beginner's forum. Better yet, the answer can be located using a simple web search. I know www.linuxnewbie.org has also been mentioned to you before for questions of the newbie nature.

Mandrake 9 installs the automount stuff which I promply stripped back out of the fstab because it wasn't stable (CD listings would mysteriously disappear after a few minutes). It's not quite ready for primetime IMHO.

Go with Tuxie's recommendation or something similiar.
