cant log on after installation....
I just installed Mandrake Linux 8.0 on my computer and I did all
the steps for install username and pass ETC..then it restarts, then boots for the first time, and I get to the login window I type in my login name and pass and it gives my an error: your login shell is not listed in /etc/shells. then I click on the shutdown button and there is an option for consol so I go there and it asks for login and pass again....so I put in my login and pass and it logs me in...but I dont know how to get outta that consol thingy and I would rather use that nifty login window:-)... anyway any help would be appreciated:-) |

I dont use X much, but it sounds like your trying to login using a non-existant window manager. When your at the login box, i think you have the option to change which window manager you use. You probably have selected one that isnt installed or that is not setup properly.
As far as loging in on the consol, once you've logged into the system, type startx. It should start x with the default window manager. If that doesnt work, try reinstalling and make sure you have selected to install what ever window manager you want. IE KDE or GNOME etc. -Mr.K |
