Debian > Probable hardware bug?
I just installed Debian and am getting the following error:

Funny thing is, I don't have a VIA chip as far as I know?!? My ASUS V3400 videocard has a NVidea Riva TNT chip I believe ![]() Anyone encountered this error before and know what it is? I wasn't doing anything special atm it occured...

this is not a graphics card error. this via686a (probably) refers to a specific version of the via mainboard chipset (82C686A). it´s a broken southbridge chip . do you have amd athlon and a mainboard with via KT133(A?) chipset?
can not tell you though if it affects linux´ stability...

I don't have an Athlon though... I have a PII-400 on an Asus P2B-F motherboard.. as far as I know it has a Intel 100Mhz 440BX AGPset with PIIX4E South Bridge on it ![]() |
