It's likely using on of a few common chipsets. Once you have identified the chipset used on the card, you will be able to install the kernel module for that chipset.
How to work this out varies. You can always try Google or the manufacturer's site. Or you could get a well-known network card like 3Com.

No, I mean search on the web for the name of your graphics card and try and determine what chipset the network card uses. Then you will be able to configure Linux to work with it.

They are just different distributions of Linux. Their differences are too vast to list here. It depends on what you want to do. The commands specified below will work under any flavour of Linux.

Boo, poor boy.
The world is not fair at all, simply developing and testing for many linux flavors is costly, so they address specifically only the most used distros, and then provide general instructions for others. That's why UnitedLinux and Linux Standard Base where born. |

hmmm, but then we get to the next question: why the hell are there different distro's?

Because it's free software (as in speech) so you can put up your own distro, if you think it's worth the time.
Notice that economic says that there is an incentive to differentiate (under specific circumstances) ... |
