uname -a gives you quite a bit of information (read the man page) but you can't get it to tell you whether or not you're on Redhat 7.1,7.2,6.0 (or whatever) directly. You could print out the kernel version from uname, but this wouldn't be reliable if a user had upgraded the kernel.
I don't know, maybe redhat built something to do this, but I don't know what it is. |

The only place where I have seen my Red Hat version is when I run the app up2date and when it displays the channels list.

oooh kewl. I didn't know you could do that. I'm on a Slack box and I just did
cat /etc/slackware-version and it happily returned 8.1 ta! Christo
