how to install a realtek NIC ?

how do i install the network card driver for linux ?

i have a AZ-NC2100/2100(Lite) network card which has the windows drivers.

when i install red hat linux 5.2, it detected the network card (at the end of installation) but it cannot find any compatible drivers for it

- i tried most of the drivers like 3com, NE compatible, hp, intel, etc, these drivers come with redhat but they could not be used. redhat prompted no device of that type found

so, how do i install the drivers / configure the network card ?

ps : in the inf file or another file on the cd, i saw the name realtek nic.

use a more recent OS 7.2 or 8.0 which will no doubt find the card OK

hardseeker, you won´t have any fun with that old distro... (see also the other post)

i made at least 40 realtek cards (PCI, 8129 / 8139) work, starting from SuSE 5.3 (which should be about the same age as your RH)

they all used either
- "pcine2k.o" for 10MBit Cards (8129)
- "rtl8139.o" for the 100MBit cards.

for kernel <2.2 i remember the drivers were in "experimental" state, thus most distributors did not compile it for you.

you COULD compile your own kernel, but this is IMHO one of the worst ways for getting started with linux

if someone gave you some Win3.11 Disks, would you install it just because you got them for free?
