Wow, this is a hard question, I really have no idea, but I can suggest you some links:
http://linux390.marist.edu/ http://publib-b.boulder.ibm.com/Red...44987.html?Open those two are closely related. And http://www.debian.org/releases/wood...install.en.html Hope this helps, and, please, report on your experience.

We've loaded Suse 7.x with the 2.2 and 2.4 kernels on both an MP2000 (in an LPAR) and on a newer z800 (under zVM).
Basically, we IPL'd from tape just to get telnet working. We telneted into the mainframe and defined the DASD that we wanted to load the operating system on. Then I put the SuSE s390 CD in a cdrom drive on an x86 PC. I started NFS on the PC and shared the cdrom. On the mainframe, I started Yast and told it I wanted to load Linux via NFS and pointed it toward the PC cdrom. From this point it is very similar to loading on a PC. Just follow the forms and fill in the blanks. If you screw up, start over and do it again (it took us a couple of weeks to figure out how to do it). You then shutdown Linux, reboot and tell it to boot from the DASD instead of the tape. DB2 and PHP work great on this platform. Apache, MySQL, Perl, Python, etc. do too. You either have to compile from source or find an s390 .rpm file. Another good source of info: http://www.linuxvm.org/ We used a SuSE .pdf file as our guide to getting it installed. It is called sles7_s390_en.pdf and can be found in several places on the net. |
