Installing Apache/Mod_SSL/OpenSSL/MySQL/PHP under Red Hat 7.1 using tarballs

Hello there everyone!
I am in an urgent need to have a server up and running for a class project. I have been working on this for various weeks now. This guide is my attempt at creating a working Apache/Mod_SSL/OpenSSL/MySQL/PHP guide, since all the guides that I have found have not worked for me. If you know of a WORKING Apache/Mod_SSL/OpenSSL/MySQL/PHP guide using either tarballs OR RPMs (tarballs prefered!) please contact me at URL

Good news first:
All the packages compiled nicely... meaning that there should be NO errors (or corrections for errors i encountered are provided! ) once you have gone through the whole guide and Apache and SSL works nicely !

BAD news:
OK, at the end, when I fire up URL and try out my test.php, PHP doesn't work! This problem has stomped me for weeks now!!

I will greatly appreciate anyone's help on this problem, and once it is solved, I will put your name as a contributor on the final release of the guide and release it everywhere on the Internet for all to enjoy!! Please feel free to contact me at URL for any suggestions, comments, and questions.

strange. nearly all guides that i followed did work. some were only outdated. yours will be too in a few months

if only php does not work, you probably did the setup of /etc/httpd.conf wrong. read the php manual about how to do it correctly:

http://www.php.net/manual/en/html/installation.html

(also available in many other languages)

and read your /var/log/httpd.error_log (or similar)
