INstalling Postgresql on Redhat 8.0
I am attempting to install Postgresql on my Redhat 8.0 developer box & have run into a few problems. I also have to tell you I am rather new to the world of Linux admin but am trudging through learning as best as I can. Anyways, here is the problem.
I needed Postgresql 7.3.2 for some of the advanced features, my new install of Redhat came with 7.2.2. After doing some reading I decided to uninstall the current version, which after catching the dependent rpms & uninstalling them went fine. I downloaded the 7.3.2 rpm from sourceforge url: http://sourceforge.net/project/show...lease_id=138489 uploaded it to my server & then attempted to install via this command rpm -ivh postgresql-7.3.2-1PGDG.src.rpm. I am getting the following errors, approximately 10 times: warning: user Lowen does not exist -using root & then warning: group Lowen does not exist - using root. Then a I get a progress bar across the bottom that goes to 100% yet nothing is installed. Any clues here? is there a flag in the rpm command Im missing? I am logged in as root to do this so Its not permissions.
I have also been told that installing Postgresql via the rpm is the prefered way, as opposed to compiling etc.. Any help here would be much appreciated!
