Installing RedHat 7.3 - Partitioning
Hi,
My PC is running on Windows 2000. I want to install Redhat 7.3. My Hard disk is 40 GB. I have created 5 GB primary partition for Windows and 15 GB Extended partition is created and 3 locical drive of 5 GB each is created. Rest of the space in my HDD is left reserved for installing linux. Now i want to install Linux. can i use the 20 GB space for installing linux ? Its not in extended partition. Please check http://www.bizhat.com/hdd/ Is what i get when i am doing Disk Druid. I don't know if it is possible to install Linux on this HDD. If possible please tell me how to do. I want dual boot between Win 2K and Linux 7.3 Regards, Yujin Boby

No Problem
It will work out just fine to install linux on the free space on your HD. Just make sure you don't overwrite the partitiontable unless you know what your doing.
You can make lilo load your windows partitions too, but if you're not familiar with lilo I would advise you to write lilo to a floppy. Then linux will be loaded when you boot from the floppy. If you download the latest version of Redhat or Mandrake, I think you'll find that the setup determine if you can write lilo to HD or not. At least I know that SuSE 8.0 supports this autoconfig. Good luck |
