Installing ubuntu stuck at 96% 'Completely removed xresprobe'

i'm installing ubuntu and had it use the whole HDD as the partition. i'm assuming it'll format the HDD and remove all data including the XP that was previously installed.

it's been stuck at 96% 'Completely removed xresprobe' for a couple of hours now. any suggestions? should i just try again? what can i do to prevent this next time? should i format the HDD myself first then install ubuntu?

1. Drop a piece of info about your machine.
2. Do you have a chance to install another distribution?
3. Can you pick a typical installation just to perform a "blind" simple test (that'll partition your hard drive automatically)
4. If 3 works OK, you need to partition your disk. BTW, you should define your swap, too ....

I think what's probably happened is that the disc didn't burn properly, did you verify the burn?

Why not try foresight instead? It's what ubuntu wants to be

i guess it takes more research... i'm going to try out foresight as well. i want an OS that i can be comfortable using to browse the web and do normal application stuff as well as start learning linux for web developing purposes.

I must say I am getting some very positive feedback on 'foresight'...But the best advice I was ever given (and what I relate) is to try as many different distributions as you can before you decide one is that much better than another...Especially trying both GNOME and KDE.

Many of the most popular distros have "live CD" versions which make it very easy to test for hardware compatibility and user friendliness...

The problem is that when you go to distrowatch you see foresight is 30th and assume it's not worth looking at, when in reality, ubuntu is number one in the list and we are better than ubuntu.
