Why don't you just use a router?

If I understand correctly, you are asking whether your Linux machine can be used as a router. The answer is, yes, it can.
I think you are looking for the routed daemon. You should be able to use Google to find a lot about using and configuring it. I have not done anything with routed yet. My ISP is not friendly towards Linux nor routers (I live and work in both worlds, as apparently you do also). So the best I can offer is to point you in a direction to start, but I can't tell you what all you will find. What I understand that you want to do: Code:
{SuSE LAN IP} {SuSE Internet IP}
(LAN) +-------------------SuSE-------------Internet
+--WinXPpro
+--Win98-1
+--Win98-2
Your SuSE machine has two network interface cards (NICs) in it, hence two IP addresses. You normally use your SuSE machine to connect to your ISP to get onto the Internet. You want to be able to connect to your ISP through any of the Windows machines, using the SuSE machine as your gateway router. Assuming that you are using a private network address (i.e., as per RFC 1918; e.g., 192.168.0.0), then you would also want to search for information on setting up NAT (Network Address Translation). If I misunderstood what you are wanting to do, please correct me. |

I can use a Router or a ISDN Card, i have both of them.
My problem is: Can a Client open and close manually the Internet connection on the Linux Server, by a script, or by another method? I don't want that a mistaked typed URL automatically perform a internet connection on router or Linux ISDN-Card.... |

You could use a script, preferably PERL or PHP, to trigger the dial-out from a www site / apache. IMHO this would be best in your case. A simple script, one HTML form that has two buttons "dial" and "hangup". And a PHP or PERL script that starts / kills the ppp daemon.
You would have to setup apache to run the program as root though, so take care that noone from "outside" can (mis-)use it ![]()
