ISO file types ?
I'm in the process of downloading RH 8.0 and so far I've downloaded one of the 3 iso files. When I run the file command on it to see what type it is, it tells me that it is ascii?!
Is this right? I thought it was supposed to be binary.... I would hate to continue downloading these files just to have to do it again because of some file type error. |

Are you sure you've been downloading that file in binary mode instead of ASCII mode?
Try to mount the file. The command is: Code:
mount -t iso9660 -o loop isofile.iso /some/directory If the mount fails, you can be reasonably sure that it is borken.

They work!!!!
I managed to find a mirror that was pretty fast so I downloaded the rest of the iso files. The installation went smooth, there is actually a media test at the very begining of the installation which tests all the CDs for errors, all three check out fine. Back to play.... ![]() |
