Issue with nano editing grub.conf though commandline

Hi all,

I have to edit the grub.conf as there was a issue in running in virtual box, so i went to edit the /boot/grub/grub.conf file ( centos )
and run

Code:
nano /boot/grub/grub.conf

though the commandline and edited the bit i needed save it and rebooted and it coming up

Code:
error 11: unrecognized device string

so luckly i backed up the grub.conf and reloaded that and it was back to normal . I tried this a few times just in case i did something wrong and everytime i do this the same result happens. So instead of running it though commandline i used

Code:
gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf

gedit pops up and i edit it and there no error even though it was the same tags i enter though nano

Any ideas what the problem could be? white spaces or something maybe?

Many thanks

It'd be worth running a "diff" on the two versions of the file: the one edited with nano and the one edited with gedit. That may shed some light on it.

Also as a guess, maybe there is some setting that is putting Microsoft-style line breaks in your edited file. But I'm not a nano user.
