Keeping windows and samba passwords in sync

I have about 20 users on a network; some on windows 2000/xp machines, some on windows nt/98. All of them need access to a home directory I've created for them on a redhat linux box. I give them that access via samba. As I'm sure you guys know, with 2000/xp, you don't have to keep the local machine password in sync with the samba password. With the other flavors of windows you do.

The basic question is, what's the strategy so that when a user changes his/her local password, it's kept in sync on the linux side? I'm assuming their must be some windows secure shell software that allows one to write a script that gets triggered when a user changes his/her password and runs the appropriate unix commands on the samba host to update the password. Anyway, rather than guessing I was hoping someone had first hand knowledge. Thanks in advance.

hmm...
20 users in the network? and you do not have a domain controller? that is really a hell of lot of work.
you should really consider setting up a DC.

i only have experience with nt4, but i know that its possible to set up something similar with linux.
my only problem is, that i had no time play around with this, so i can not give you any further information on this so called samba-tng project. (maybe somebody can provide us with some information and experiences)

greetz,
jameskirk

Actually I've since realized that the way to go is to set up samba as the domain controller. That way you don't have to worry about any syncing issues. Thanks for the help.
