I don't think it's been mentiuoned yet, but for users of RedHat's Fedora Core 2, there is a GUI front-end to an Debian-like apt dependency-resolving system called Synaptic.

I posted a short guide on the Gentoo forums a few months ago about how to tweak an Ext3 filesystem for increased performance and reliability. I thought I'd add that here too for those who like tweaking with things.

Free Ubuntu CDs

Ubuntu Linux: ShipIt

you can order CDs to be posted to you for free. I've just ordered mine. Don't be ordering too many just because they are free. Only order what you will use and distribute to friends.

There's an excellent unofficial Ubuntu guide at http://www.ubuntuguide.org/. It's currently aimed at the 5.04 (Hoary Hedgehog) release.

Perfect Setup Series

Ah the don't forget the excellent howto series by Falko Timme.

These are useful for both newbies and someone using gentoo/slack for many years but wants to checkout debian/suse/fedora/ubuntu/mandriva etc. They are also useful for old timers using say redhat 7.3 but need to check out FC4. They cover steps like installation as well as LAMP.

Suse 9.3 perfect setup

Fedora Core 4 perfect setup

Mandriva 10.2 perfect setup

Debian Sarge perfect setup

ISP-Server Setup -Ubuntu 5.10 "Breezy Badger"

Falko Timme deservers a gong. The site How to Forge also deserves mention as contributing to advancement of opensource/GNU Linux rather than distro-specific.
