Linux networking trouble
Ive installed Linux red hat 7.2 and have all the books to go with it.
Im trying to set Linux up as a server so that 3 other machine running different windows OS can connect to the internet using the same IP address. I have no internet connect as yet but would like to get the linux box secure before i go inline as well as network the pc together. Can anyone suggest anything that im doing wrong. Samba is installed and ive set the Windows systems as follows XP has IP address 10.0.0.1 WIN 2K IP address 10.0.0.2 The windows pc's can see each other but i think i need to do something in Linux. Can anyone help. Thankyou in advanced Jeffers

Could you possibly give us less information to work with???? You don't even tell us what problem you're having in Linux. Give us more info on your Linux troubles and then I'll try to help.

I was wondering why windows can't see linux and linux can't see any windows OS that is being used.
When i try and ping one of the windows system i get an error message saying not on Network or something like that. I was wondering how to set it up and wheather there are any good web sites telling me how. |

OK I just set up a network with XP and RH7.3
I looked mainly at these websites! http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/IP-Masque...ng-the-lan.html http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/Li...Networking.html http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/tutorials/2444/1 http://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...y.php?forumid=3 http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/mini/Home...mini-HOWTO.html http://www.networkcomputing.com/uni...10/1210uw3.html http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/Li...Networking.html All these in no particular order were helpful.. Start off with just the linux PC and the Win PC booted and being able to ping each other..

What are the IP addresses and subnet masks of all of your computers?

actually jeffers, you don't need your Linux box to be able to do anything with the windows machines, or visa versa. There's no reason why you shouldn't just buy a little 4-port ethernet hub, some cables, plug them in and let them live their separate lives.....
unless you really wanna get into file sharing stuff, you shouldn't have any need for Samba etc christo
