More Linux Help?

Hi

I am still having trouble with setting up my little home network.

To recap I have a win2k box and a RedHat Linux 7.2 box.

I installed LAN cards in each and connected via a hub.

I set IP for the win2k box as 10.0.0.3 and IP for the Linux box as 10.0.0.2

Connection appears ok - I can ping the Linux box ok and can even access it via SSH. I can even view web pages stored on the Linux box via browser on the win2k box - great!

I can also ping the win2k box from the Linux box - but the ping seems to be continuously repeating itself - I cannot seem to do just one ping and see the returned results, but it is connecting through ok

I cannot access the Linux box via FTP

Does anyone know how I can -

1. Allow FTP access to the Linux box?

2. Set it up so I can use win2k to read and save files on the Linux box? Do I need Samba for this?

Many thanks

Kevin

Ping in Linux doesn't just ping 4 times like in the Windows world. You either have to press CTRL-C to stop it or use the flag -c to specify how many replies to return. So, ping -c 4 ipaddress would perform like it does in Windows.

You need to setup an ftp server on the linux box to access file via ftp.

If you install samba on the the Linux box you'll have to setup smb.conf to decide which directories to share and specify permissions. Check out www.samba.org for more info.

kjedwards you start here now and learn how to post a descriptive subject title before starting any new thread.
More Linux Help? is unacceptable.
- There is no such thing as More because you can't assume everyone to read all of your previous posts
- Here is Linux forum, of course you better be asking Linux related questions
- Help? 99.999% of posters need help here

Dear freebsd (Sir!),

Sorry if my title offends or isn't up to your high standards.

I do think however your reply is somewhat over the top and actually rather impolite.

Yours

Kevin

You need not to apologize to anyone, just don't do it again.

>> your reply is somewhat over the top and actually rather impolite

Who in Devshed doesn't know I'm the most uncourteous members here? Don't forget, it's your responsibility to read the TOS and guidelines here in the first place.

OK.

I for one didn't know you were the most discourteous member of this forum - surely not!

I will start a new thread hope the title is more descriptive

Yours

Kevin
