Network package garbage in console
I don't know how to explain this, which is why I probably have problems searching for help on it... It isn't any issue when using the X server, but if using the console (under RH8), what appears to be information regarding packets gets displayed on the screen. It can be cleared with ^L, and it doesn't count as input (i.e. if im in the middle of typing a command, that appears and i finish the command and press enter, it works), but it's damn annoying!! especially as occasionally it can place lots up there almost simultaneously.
Any ideas what's causing it, and if so how to stop it? If it helps I might be able to get a copy of one of the messages, but it's stopped it now i want to copy it! typical... any help greatly appreciated, Fish |

Itīs probably the firewall - iptables or ipchains - that is setup to log certain packets + syslogd being setup to echo certain messages to the console (or maybe not running at all).

That sounds about right. I know depending on your setup with IPChains and IPTables, they will output to the console. Check your settings.

Yeah, it's a global alert. If you had a console session open in X like xterm or aterm or gterm or whatnot, the message would appear in any or all terminals open.
